MBCT – Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy

Mindfulness based cognitive therapy uses the core skill of mindfulness to prevent depression and foster deeper interpersonal connection. Mindfulness is the act of paying attention to the present moment without judging it, or “being in the now.” Learning to see negative thoughts as “just thoughts” and part of the ongoing human experience, we become less invested in the story we tell ourselves and more able to look at our experience in a fresh new way. MBCT combines mindfulness with cognitive therapy, which is essentially the process of looking at our negative assumptions with a critical eye. Together, Mindfulness and cognitive therapy provide a good framework to guide us and help us grow.
